Yes, I can get (and already have) another card reader, but that won't help if a similar problem arises later on with another USB device. Besides, it's the challenge. Edit// Tried DEVCON, and it didn't refresh the reader, either. I wonder if having only a 4-pin connector is causing the problem. The reader I have that works is 9-pin, which has a USB (passthrough) port. Edit2// So Windows 7 x64 actually does detect the reader upon boot. I had Windows Explorer open, and could see the reader with the appropriate drive letters.
However, something during boot disables the device completely. Upon reboot, it doesn't show up in the BIOS, and won't work again until you've unplugged and replugged it. BTW, I tried plugging one of the USB ports back plate, in order to fill up the other pins on the mainboard header, but no luck.
